WHAT WDSTOGGLE DOES:
WDSToggle is a little utility (or enhancement) for Windows Desktop Search (WDS). It lets you hide/show the WDS search window with the click of a single hotkey (F8 by default, but you can change it).

If you are like me you do not want to have your computer screen cluttered with unnecessary windows and programs. Although I like Windows Desktop Search a lot and I use it very often I don't need it all the time. Windows Desktop Search lets you put a toolbar on the Windows Taskbar or have floating window on your desktop. I don't like the toolbar because it takes permanently a lot of space from my taskbar, and I don't like the floating window because there is no way to hide it when you don't need it or to bring it to the front when you want it. That is why I created WDSToggle.

SOURCE CODE:

The source of this little utility is provided in this zip file (WDSToggle.au3) and it is free for any one to use as they see fit. It is written using the amazing AutoIt3 scripting language. To learn more go to www.autoitscript.com.
You DO NOT NEED to use the sourcecode for anything. If you are not interested, simply do not extract it from the zip file.

INSTALATION:

Normally installing WDSToggle. is very straight-forward. The only tricky step may be step #1 below, which I try to explain in as much detail as possible.

1.- You must first make sure that you have setup Windows Desktop Search so that it uses a "floating window". If you have already, you can skip to (2). When you have WDS using a floating window you should see a small window called "Deskbar". If you dont do the followin:
- Minimize ALL your windows.
- Make sure that your windows taskbar is UNLOCKED. To unlock the taskbar, right click on it, on an empty space, and UNCHECK "Lock the taskbar"
- Open the Windows Desktop Search preferences by right clicking on the WDS tray icon and clicking on "Desktop Search Options". Select the "Deskbar" tab (on the right) and click on the "Show Deskbar" button. If instead of "Show Deskbar" it says "Hide Deskbar" you are already showing the deskbar. Clicking on "Show Deskbar" will add the WDS toolbar to your windows taskbar.
- DRAG the WDS Deskbar from the taskbar to the desktop. Thisshould create a floating window labelled "Deskbar".
- You are ready to go to step 2! :)

2.- Create a folder and drop the WDSToggle.exe file in it. WDS Toggle does not create any files on your computer. You can put it in any folder that you want. It does not matter if you have other files/programs there or if you put it on a folder of its own.

3.- Run WDSToogle.exe! Now you can start...

USING WDSToggle:

Using WDSToggle is very straight-forward.

When WDSToggle is run, it places an icon on the System Tray area. You will notice that it is identical to the Windows Desktop Search icon. I recommend that you "hide" the original Windows Desktop Search try icon (right click the windows taskbar, select properties, Customize, search the icon labeled "Windows Desktop Search" and change it to "Always hide").

If you click the WDSToggle icon it will show/hide the Windows Desktop Search window.
You can also show/hide the WDS deskbar by clicking the WDSToggle hotkey, which by default is F8. You can change the hotkey by chanign the WDSToggle preferences.

To show the WDS preferences sinply right click on the WDSToggle tray icon, which will show the configuration menu. From there you can:
- enable/disable the "run at startup" option (which when enabled will make WDSToggle run automatically when Windows starts).
- Change the hotkey by selecting "Change Toggle Key combo".
- Fix the "ugly" WDS bug that shows a big floating Deskbar instead of a small one (by enabling "Auto-resize WDS").

You can also exit WDSToggle.exe
